HD - Logistics
Field: Logistics
Title: Regional Manager
Role: Corporate & Business Development
Dates: December 2016 - December 2017
Project Description
PROJECT SUMMARY
I met the president of HDL through my development work with Kier & Wright, and he subsequently engaged me for consulting services related to the development of Hope Ranch. Impressed with my work, he asked me to provide similar consulting and planning support for HDL.
At that time, the president had been managing all aspects of the company, including account managers, controlling, and corporate development, operating as a one-man show. However, as the company grew, he realized that he could no longer effectively oversee all operations and needed to create a new regional management position.
I was brought in to help design and implement the regional manager role, which would oversee account management, controlling, and account improvements at a regional level. I took on dual responsibilities: first, I managed the region during my tenure, and second, I developed the position, along with the necessary tools and processes, to ensure effective regional management moving forward.
MEASUREMENT AND CONTROLLING
We established measurement procedures to track key performance indicators (KPIs) across the company. This data was then compiled into standardized weekly and monthly reports, providing actionable insights. We trained account managers to use these KPI reports to implement targeted on-site training and feedback mechanisms, aimed at improving contractor and employee performance.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
The controlling process enabled us to identify and address key operational challenges, leading to the development of a more effective business structure. I created a corporate and account-level organizational model, developed operating procedures for account management, and designed job descriptions for account managers and their teams.
OPERATIONAL EXECUTION
Once the reporting system and business structure were established, we implemented the new business plan. This included hiring and training staff, instituting corporate oversight mechanisms, and standardizing client communications. Over the following months, I led ongoing system improvements and closely monitored the business to ensure sustainable progress and prevent regression to previous operational challenges.
